sustainability, community and climate action for everyone
If you care about the planet and want to do more, but are lacking confidence in your knowledge and the impact that your individual actions are making, this is the place for you.
About need less
need less is an educational and inspirational blog and community where you can learn about everyday actions we can introduce into our lives, get ideas and feel motivated to make changes both big and small, and gain confidence when it comes to talking to others about what you are doing and how they can have a positive impact too.
It’s also a base of knowledge to educate yourself more seriously on climate issues and sustainability, through recommended online courses, resources, media and the latest climate news.
You can follow along on social media for short form education, motivation, mindset and goal setting, sign up for the newsletter or join the waitlist for the Champion Community.
My story
Hey, I’m Danielle!
A couple of years ago I gave up my own successful business with a plan of what to do next. It was beautiful, positive work but I was burnt out and (or most likely, because) I knew it didn’t align with what I was really meant to be doing.
I didn’t know what was next for me but I knew that I was meant to be doing something where I could make a positive difference to people and the planet.
In my day to day life I was conscious of the impact I was having on the earth - not using more water than I needed, avoiding palm oil, composting, picking up rubbish.. but I was still addicted to fast fashion and our house was filling up with clothes and other gadgets to supposedly make our lives more convenient and efficient.
Except it was weighing us down.
Soon after, we found out we were expecting our second baby, and knowing how quickly babies grow out of everything and how short lived every item is, I endeavoured to get everything we needed second-hand.
And that was the start of a huge change.
That simple decision COMPLETELY changed my mindset around buying things and it opened my eyes to the huge negative impact that consumerism has on the planet. And that knowledge and interest led me down a rabbit hole of all the things that harm our planet, the things we can do as individuals and the systems, companies and politics that cause the most damage of all.
I found myself wanting to talk about it with friends and family but realised that I couldn’t explain things as eloquently as I had heard it explained to me, or I didn’t have the answers to a lot of questions which those conversations raised.
So I created need less. To write about what I’m learning, to connect with other people who feel the same way, to set realistic and impactful sustainability goals, deepen my knowledge, increase my confidence, take important actions and encourage others to start taking notice, too.
I’m so grateful that you found me and that you are also on the journey to creating a healthier, happier planet.
